Barometer

What is a Barometer?

A Barometer is an instrument used to measure the magnitude of air pressure (atmospheric pressure) in a certain environment or surrounding.

Uses of a Barometer

A barometer has widespread use in various physical sciences like physics and astronomy. Some of its practical applications include: 1. Measuring relative altitude and elevation changes. 2. Making short-term weather forecasts. 3. Conducting surface weather analysis.

Digital Barometer in PSLab

Materials Required

  • Your Phone or Computer
  • The PSLab App installed

Procedure

  1. Open the PSLab app on your device.
  2. Navigate to the Instruments page and scroll down until you reach the Barometer option.
  3. Tap on the instrument to open it.
  4. The app will immediately begin reading the atmospheric pressure using your device's built-in barometer sensor (if available) or an external connected sensor.
  5. You can view the data dynamically plotted on the graph and use it for altitude tracking or weather predictions.
